
Southern Mariners storm to Asia-Pacific title
UPDATE: Saturday 16 July
The Southern Mariners team from Melbourne has qualified for the Senior League World Series in Maine, United States, starting on 31 July. Winning all four of its preliminary games, the Mariners again displayed their all-round defensive and offensive strength by dispensing with Guam 10-0 in the Asia-Pacific Tournament final.
Australian Baseball Alumni extends its ongratulations to all players, coaching staff, officials and supporters who have been involved with this remarkable group of young men. We look forward to more great news to come.
Thursday 14 July
Making a clean sweep of the preliminary contests, Southern Mariners edged home 2-1 from Guam in a high standard Game Four for the Australian side. The Mariners will play off in the final on Saturday - most likely in a return stoush with Guam, although that will depend on the result of Friday games for the other teams. The winner of the final will qualify for the Seior League World Series starting in Maine, USA, on 31 July.

Wednesday 13 July
The Southern Mariners continued to dominate in the tournament, today posting a 33-0 win over Indonesia that guarantees a place in Saturday's final between first and second. The Mariners will play Guam on Thursday in their fourth - and last - preliminary match.

Southern Mariners continued their scintillating form with a 16-0 win over CNMI (Northern Mariana) in Game Two of the series played today.

Southern Mariners have opened their Asia-Pacific Senior League qualifying campaign in spectacular fashion by thrashing Philippines 21-4 in the first of their four tournament games. Getting out to an early break, the Melbourne-based side withstood a mid-game challenge before producing a withering offensive burst that enabled them to surge away from the local national team.
The Mariners will play three more preliminary games during this week, with the winner of the series guaranteed a place at the Senior League World Series to be played in Bangor, Maine, from 31 July to 6 August.

Undefeated winner at the Australian Senior League Championship played in May this year, Victorian team the Southern Mariners is on target for a bold showing at the Asia-Pacific Championship starting in the Philippines on Monday 11 July.
The Southern Mariners qualified for the 2016 Senior League Asia-Pacific Championship after going through the Australian Senior League Championship undefeated, culminating in a 6-1 victory over Hills.
As part of its preparation for the series, the squad has spent a week training with the Major League Academy on the Gold Coast before heading to Clark, in the Philippines, to represent Australia at the Asia-Pacific Region Tournament.
The Mariners will face teams from Guam, CNMI (Northern Mariana), Indonesia and the Philippines. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the Senior League World Series in Bangor, Maine, USA (31 July – 6 August).
